Pics from previous RnR races & some other pics of Savannah

Since I'll be away tomorrow, I wanted to post some pics from other RnR races!! See ya monday!! I also found other pics of Savannah so I thought I'd throw those in there too.

RnR Nashville - my first road half

crossing the finish line - RnR always has fun stuff like this

the Tea place I was talking about - so good - and I WILL be visiting this again

Awesome trees that are famous in the Low Country

the trolly - free!!!

RnR New Orleans! My 3rd half and my fav to date

RnR New Orleans again - love the photo opps!

First time I dressed up, RnR NO

What not to do before a half...

I normally have a pretty regimented routine the week before a race. I eat mainly lean protein/veggies, I drink a lot of water and I roll my legs. It worked well for the last half and I swear by it.

This week - that has not happened. none of it.

Two positive things I have done for myself this week -

Yoga - I have consistently taken 2-3 yoga classes a week for the past 3 months. This has done WONDERS for my running. I do not have pain. I don't have pain in my hip, I don't have pain in my hamstring, I don't have pain in my hip flexor, none. No pain. At. all.. that's amazing to me.

Massage - I was referred to a masseuse by a couple of people, Kelly VanLeeuwen. She is awesome and does a great job of digging into areas that really bother me. My butt/piriformis/hamstring pain has gone away from seeing her.

She also does Thai massage which I would like to try one day. It sounds awesome.

Here's where things went wrong -

My eating has been WAY off. I think it might have something to do with the house. When I get stressed, I eat. poorly. So.... this won't be my best half. But it'll still be lots of fun, I'm going with my mom and grandma, I love Savannah and I feel well rested.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

courtesy of Little Daisy May

1. Chipin

I was kind of wondering how I was going to fundraise for this trip to Africa, but several people suggested this  website. I've added it to my blog and am ready to start raising some funds!! Woot Woot

2. Etsy and more specifically - Lauren Poole on Etsy. I got these yoga prints and am going to put them in my yoga room. So excited!!

She also makes really cute towels and christmas cards and all kinds of things. She is super talented so please go there and buy something from her!!!

3. Anna Kournikova

Ok, so this might be more of a what I'm not loving but I don't like to be negative. I felt so bad for Anna last night. All of the contestants were dogging her out. First, everyone thought they'd be underdogs because they had Anna?? And then, they were all freaking out because they had to change trainers??

I felt so bad for her. She did a good job defending herself and I'm glad in the end, people came around, but i mean, come on people. That was not nice. She's done a lot with her career and obviously, she's competitive, she has competed more than anyone else on that ranch. She's a professional tennis player. Like, she makes money by winning her sport.

Just because a trainer isn't screaming and spitting in your face doesn't mean they're not a good trainer. So Anna, I support you and I'm glad your team won the weigh in.

Next Race and Fundraising Goal

Hello to my new followers! I'm so excited to have you and hope I can entertain you even 1/3 as much as SkinnyRunner. If you haven't been reading or are new, I was planning on running the full marathon this weekend (would've been my first), but didn't realize how time consuming it would be. Since I'm moving in 3 weeks, it's football season, I've had 4 weddings and yoga teacher training, I had to realize my scheduling error and adjust accordingly. So, with all that being said - here is my racing schedule for the next 3 months :

1. Rock'n'Roll Savannah - November 5th

I'm super excited about this race because I LOVE the RnR series. I've done Nashville and New Orleans and they were so fun. I'm wondering about the music because Nashville was country/southern rock, New Orleans was blues inspired... what does Savannah offer musically? I'm not sure. But it's still going to be awesome. Savannah is beautiful and running through the historic district is going to be awesome. I'm also running this half with my mom for her first, so that's going to be cool too. And my grandma is tagging along to cheer her on. So fun!

2. Rock'n'Roll Las Vegas - December 4th

Can you tell I like the RnR series? This is a night race on the strip. Can it get any better than that? No. I don't think so. I want to dress up like Elvis but am not super creative, so probably won't.

3. Resolution Half Marathon, Greenville, SC - January 7th

There was not really a pic to go along with it. I don't know if it'll be as exciting as the first two, but I need to do a better job of supporting local races. So I'm doing that.

Lastly, my trip is officially set for Rwanda. I am going to be volunteering in an orphanage and will start August 1st. The trip is expensive, so I've always been planning to fundraise. Originally, I was going to do a sprint triathlon but in order to save money, we're quitting the gym so I won't have a pool. What does that mean? Half Marathon. Since I'm trying to raise money for a very expensive trip (around $3,000), so I don't want to waste money by traveling to an expensive race. That's why I've decided to run the........

drum.....

roll.....

GREER EARTH DAY HALF MARATHON IN APRIL!!!

They don't have the 2012 date set yet, but I'm assuming it'll be around April 7th/April 8th. I've heard it's a fun race, it's pretty, it's cheap and it's close. I plan on training pretty hard for this one, so I'm hoping I can beat my previous half time of 2:17. I don't think I will beat it before then because I haven't been training as hard. So...

That's it!!

Ever run a local race?
New Greenville peeps, ever run the Earth Day half??

Cat lady blogs

hello people from Skinny Runner! I really appreciate SR featuring me!! Please comment on my blogs because I like to hear what people say. And it doesnt' happen a lot... so

do it. now.

1 week away!!!

We are less than a week away from the Rock'n'Roll Savannah!! While I was originally going to run the marathon and have had to change to the half, I am still super excited about it. I've been to Savannah once before and it was awesome so I thought it'd be fun to talk about all the cool things we did while I was there.

First of all, let me warn you, these pics are terrible. I forgot my camera and my husband and I thought it'd be cool to each get a disposable camera and take pics. Then we'd get them developed and see our artistic prowess. We are both terrible photographers, and kodak just doesn't make a high quality disposable camera, what is wrong with them?

If you're from the south and you go to Savannah, you've got to see where Forrest Gump was filmed. Kind of disappointing the bench wasn't there... but still had to get the pic

The Pirate House - do not go here. It's got lots of history and nasty food...

This is near the water... I took this on the tour - it's where the slave trade took place

There are a lot of parks here... and they are pretty

and trees

It's really pretty in Savannah - I don't know where we'll be running, but I hope it's through here

If you go to Tybee Island, visit the Breakfast Club. It is DELICIOUS

So, if you're coming to Savannah this weekend, take a trolley tour. It's an awesome city with lots of history. The other thing I would recommend is a Ghost tour. They're lots of fun.

Food - please please hit Boar's Head on the water. Best shrimp and grits I've ever had - even better than in Charleston. Also go to the Tea Room that's near Savannah College of Art and Design book store in the middle of town. We had afternoon tea and petite fours. So good. There was also a brunch place near the water and I cannot remember the name but it was delicious. It was in a little corner cafe.

Do NOT go to the Pirate House. It is nasty. Nasty. Nasty
Have fun!!!
