Wishy Washy McGee

So I am now rethinking my half marathon race in the April timeframe. I'm not sure that I'm interested in doing that kind of training right now. But I NEED a race to use as a goal to raise money for Africa. Is a 10k enough? I know some people read my blog, but I'd really love some feedback on this one -

1) have you ever raised money for a race?
2) have they always been an endurance event?
3) have you ever raised money for an event like a 10K?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. For what it's worth: I raised money for a Komen 5K once, so no, it doesn't have to be an endurance event in my opinion. What I do get really annoyed about it this: If people donate for your cause and then get their panties in a twist when you don't run a marathon/ a half or bike 100 miles. It's a donation for a cause and not them buying a certain amount of miles from you!

  2. I don't think you need to do an "race" to raise money. I think you could train for the cross fit games and just make sure you have a clearly defined goal and communicate that to your friends, family, co workers. It needs to be something that you are passionate about. Also blog about your training so your donators feel more involved.

A neighbor of mine raised money for her fathers cancer treatment. I am sure she would be happy to tell you the best ways to raise money. I know they did golf tournments, pizza nights a local spots...

Just a few thoughts. Good luck but I feel like you aren't feeling the running right now and missing the lifting.

  3. Thanks Ladies!!! I do enjoy the running but I just feel like banging out miles and miles on a saturday is not what I want, so I might shoot for a 10k.

Alisen, Crossfit games are super intense and I'm not sure I'd be a good fit for that!! but I definitely want to train for it because I am enjoying the lifting, like you said.

I think I am going to start dedicating a post about Rwanda and maybe come up with different ideas for what to do with the kids in the orphanage.

    Thank you for your help!
